Beagles

Beagles are extremely friendly dogs, with a LOT of curiosity. They are wonderful canines, but as with any other breed they are not for everyone. Beagles tend to be vocal under the right conditions and are digging specialists at times. Even the best trained Beagle can develop severe amnesia when something else appears to be more interesting than what you want it to do (food is one of the few proven methods to train a Beagle).

Beagles were originally bred to hunt rabbits and other small game in a pack. Because of their instincts Beagles are definite pack dogs, and need social contact. If you do not provide social contact (and a high fence) they are likely to make a break for it. Never leave a Beagle unsupervised.... Their keen noses can get them in trouble.

Beagles come in just about every color imaginable, and are utilitarian dogs that can participate in several activities. Beagles have strong powerful hind legs and are supposed to be able to cross rough terrain for long stretches of time. They have extremely sensitive noses and can make excellent trackers... it is rumored that their nose is more sensitive than a Bloodhound's. Beagles have big velvety ears and a constantly moving white tipped tail (or flag to indicate where it is in tall vegetation).
