In the mid 1800's there were just a few families with the surnames Milton and Melton living in the Virginia Counties in the vicinity of Roanoke. An earlier family, that of Absolam Milton, had lived here until the early 1800's before moving on to Grayson County and further west. The Milton families that lived here in the 1850's were not descended from Absolam but presumably families that migrated from the east much later. These are records compiled over the years as I was trying to determine the ancestry of Josiah Milton (b. 1818).
