My family and I have lived in North Manchester for some 16 years. My wife grew up in Wabash, Indiana and I lived in Roann. We came to North Manchester after I got hired at the North Manchester Police Department on April 1, 1983. Niether one of us knew that much about North Manchester when we came here, but over the years we have grown to love it very much. North Manchester is a "small town", but to a boy who grew up in Roann it is huge. North Manchester was featured on ABC Good Morning American in the 80s as Small Toan USA. We have a small college (Manchester College) and what I feel is a great school system. I will not go into any great detail on North Manchester, but you go to The Wabash Plain Dealer or to The News Journal for more information. I just don't feel the need to bore anyone with details already on the net (and I don't believe I can write or talk about it as good as it has already been done.)
North Manchester is a great place for the children involved in sports. They have a soccer league, baseball that starts with T-ball, girl's softball, basketball that starts at kindergarden, and football that starts at 1st grade. My wife and I have tried keeping our children involved in as many of these activies as we have been able, as we feel that it keeps them out of trouble, as well as prepares them for their future. I also believe that they are only young once and the memories they gather from being involved in actities now will last them a life time.
We have a small park and an indoor pool, we have a sports complex, that has 4 diamonds, for softball, little league and pony.
Basketball is "king" in our area, and has a strong history. Click on the scoreboard to go to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. (The scoreboard is from old Chester Township of which North Manchester is part of)
Our High School has all the reqular sports, and our basketball program is 2nd to none. A few years ago the boys were ranked as high as 3rd in the state, remarkable with the small numbers of students we have. The girls made it to the final four in 1998.
The High School has numerous clubs and other things children can do. Our High School Band does what I feel a great job and are fun to listen to.
Manchester has fast food, sports, history, and small town values. Our children fish and hunt, they work on farms and in businesses. I would not want to live and raise my family anywhere else.
North Manchester is also the birth place of Thomas R Marshall
Please come back, and if you are ever in the area stop by and see the town. But seeing it isn't enough, come and stay for awhile.
