Lassie Lou Abner




Lassie Lou Abner, 59, of the Medford community, Lake City Rt 1, died Feb 4, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She became ill at Anderson County High School, where she was a teacher in the vocational improvement program and English department.

She had taught in the Anderson County School system since 1958. She began teaching at Rosedale School and transferred to Lake City High School in 1959.

After a 15-year absence, she returned to Clinton High School in 1977 and transferred to Lake City in 1978. She had been at ACHS since 1982.

Miss Abner was a member of the Anderson County Education Association, the Tenessee Education Association and the National Education Association.

She also was a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church, where she served as clerk.

Her parents were the late Buel and Bertha Alice Hatmaker Abner. She was born Sept 19, 1933, in Anderson Co.

Miss Abner received her bachelor's degree from Carson-Newman College and later continued her education at Carson Newman, the University of Kentucky, Georgia Southern College, West Georgia College and the University of Tennessee.

Survivors include a sister, Barbara Roysden of Wichita Falls, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Wanda Abner of Clinton and Carl and Jean Abner of Rome, Ga.; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Services were held Monday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Powell, the Rev. Mike Abernathy and the Rev. Rocky Abernathy officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Clear Branch Baptist Church, Rt 1, Lake City, Tn. 37769.
