Gentry Ballard Alexander, 75, of Powell died Friday in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born Nov. 27, 1918 in Lebanon, VA; he was the son of D.J. and Virginia Alexander. At the age of 18, Mr. Alexander asked Jesus Christ to forgive him and save him.
In 1939, Mr. Alexander married Mildred Irene Slate.
He served in the Navy in 1945 as a Seaman Second Class Security Officer. He retired from Martin Marietta after 35 years of service on July 1, 1985.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Alexander, five children, Kenneth Alexander of Sevierville, Mavis Aslinger of Oak Ridge, Judy Alexander of Claxton, Betty Hopson of Front Royal, VA. and Jimmy Alexander of Wartburg; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was Sunday in Tennessee Valley Funeral Home chapel with Bill Snodderly officiating. Burial was in Tennessee Valley Memory Gardens, where Mr. Alexander received a graveside military funeral.
