Patsy Melvina Alred, 83, of Lake City died Sunday in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Alred was a member of First Baptist Church, Lake City, and of the Lake City Keen Club. Born Sept. 19, 1910, in Bell County, KY, she was the daughter of Samuel Shope and Georgia Shope Drummonds. Mrs. Alred was a homemaker. Among her interests were house plants and growing “some beautiful roses,” her family said. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by husband, Dewey Lincoln Alred in 1968; sons, Robert Howard Alred in 1990 and Jack D. Alred in 1993; and great-granddaughter, April Michelle Walker.
Survivors include a son, Leon Alred of Orlando, FL; daughter, Elnora Jenkins of Lake City; daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Herskel “Bill” Walker of Knoxville and Jane and Hugh D. Foster of Vicksburg, MS; daughters-in-law, Ila Alred of Denver, CO; and Wanda Alred of Salem, IN; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; brother, David Shope of Maynardville; sisters, Abby Beason and Polly Joran, both of Union County, and Beatrice Drummonds of Harrogate.
Funeral service was Wednesday in First Baptist Church, Lake City, with the Rev. Wayne Hubbs and the Rev. Wayne Markham officiating. Burial was in Norris Memorial Gardens. Cox Funeral Home, Lake City, was in charge of arrangements.
