Funeral services for Earl Armes, 74, of Clinton Rt. 5 were held Monday at Poplar Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Dawson officiating. Burial was at Poplar Creek Cemetery. The Volunteer State Honor Guard held military graveside services. Cox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Born July 2, 1919 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Standish and Pearl Patterson Armes.
Mr. Armes lived in the Marlow community where he was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church. He was a retired WACO truck driver.
A distinguished U.S. Army veteran during World War II, he received the Purple Heart, European-African-Middle Eastern campaign ribbons; good conduct medal, four bronze stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He participated in the battles of Normandy, Northern Springs, Rhineland and Central Europe.
Mr. Armes was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Lively Armes in 1978; sisters, Lucille Marsiglia and Flossie (Jack) Armes; and brothers, Frank and Millard Armes.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia J. Armes of Clinton; special nephew, Steve Armes of Cairo, Egypt; sisters and brothers-in-law, Freddie and Bill Allman of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, Rose and Edd Seiber of Oliver Springs, Ruby and H.M. Freels of Knoxville, Stella Morgan of Oliver Springs; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Lorraine Armes of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA; brother-in-law, Frank Marsiglia of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-law, Reba Armes of Berea, OH, and special friends, Raymond Hooks, Maleia Taylor and Cecil White, all of Clinton.
