Byrd Bailey, 88, of Clinton Rt. 2, died Saturday at hi home.
He was the last surviving member of 23 children. He was born in Campbell County to the late James Frank and Esther Bailey. Mr. Bailey had lived in Anderson County for 50 years.
A retired cook and laborer from the L & N Railroad, he had also retired from Sun Coal Company, where he worked as a miner. He was a member of Cumberland View Baptist Church.
Mr. Bailey enjoyed farming and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Nellie McGhee Bailey; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marie and J. R. Roberts, of Edgewater, FL, and Dorothy Roach of Clinton; four sons and daughters-in-law, James and Edna Bailey, Ray and Susan Bailey, Jerry and Martha Bailey, all of Clinton and Frank and Gladys Bailey of Burlington, NC; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday in the chapel of Martin Clinton Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifford Fraker and the Rev. Jerry Copeland officiating. Burial was at Tennessee Valley Memory Gardens.
