Arvil Lee (Joe) Baker Jr., 56, of
Oliver Springs Rt 2, died
Oct 24 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Mr.
Baker had worked as a
carpenter for the Tennessee Valley Authority at the Watts Bar Plant for
about 10 years. He had also
worked for several area companies before his employment at TVA. He was a
member of the
Carpenter's Union Local No. 74 in Chattanooga.
Mr. Baker, a native
of Arkansas, was the
son of the late Suvilla Reynolds and Arvil Lee Baker Sr. His family
moved to Oak Ridge in 1942 where
his father operated Baker's Barber Shop in Jackson Square.
Mr.
Baker, a member of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, served in the Air Force
during the Korean War. He
moved to Oliver Springs about 30 years ago. His hobbies were fishing and
woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Stripling Baker,
three daughters and sons-
in-law, Delores and Tommy Bird of Williamsburg, Ky.; Debbie and Dayton
Brandon of Harriman, and
Margo Baker of Oliver Springs; a sister, Katherine Frye of Norwood; three
grandchildren; a niece and
four nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints in Oak Ridge. Burial was in Oliver Springs Cemetery.
Weatherford Mortuary was in
charge of arrangements.
