Virgie V. Bass, 71, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday at Fort Sanders Park West Medical Center after a long illness.Mrs. Bass was a native of Knoxville. She lived in Oak Ridge and Oliver Springs for the past 50 years. She retired from the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge housekeeping department.

Her parents, Henry H. and Kattie Jones Dunaway, and two sons, Alan and Ray Casteel, died earlier.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Bass of oak Ridge; and two children, John Casteel and his wife, Debra, of Oak Ridge; and Barbara and her husband, Leon Crass, of Gary, Ind.; a brother, Henry Dunaway of Gold Hill, N.C., and two sisters, Ann Love of Concord, N.C., and Beulah Freedle of Lexington, N.C.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services were in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home Monday with the Rev. Matt Wilkerson officiating. Burial was at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
