A member of the Free Communion Baptist Church, Byrd Daugherty, 62, of the Devonia community, died at 8:45 pm Friday at his home.
The retired coal miner was a 28 year member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 1569. He also was a member of Black Diamond Lodge No. 625 F & AM, Sunrise Chapter No. 364 of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Opal Phillips Daugherty; four daughters, Mrs. P.J. (Anita) Seiber of Jacksboro, Mrs. James (Tena) Moore and Miss Venna Daugherty, both of Devonia, and Mrs. Bill (Vergie) Wade of Oak Ridge; two sons, Kenneth Byrd Daugherty of Speedwell and Roger Daughtery of LaFollette; six grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Mary Daugherty of Caryville.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Free Communion Baptist Church with the Revs. Ray Scarbrough and Edwin Phillips officiating. Burial was in Anderson Memorial Gardens.
