David Douglas Daugherty, 34, of Rt. 1 Briceville died of an apparent suicide some time during the early morning hours of June 19.
Daugherty was discovered by his brother, Joe Daugherty, who awoke to find David and a rifle missing.
David was found lying behind the coal house in a fetal position with the rifle between his legs. According to reports, Daugherty had been talking about killing himself for some time, but had refused to seek treatment.
He was employed as a sawmill worker.
Survivors include his parents, Rufus and Monie Bell Daugherty of New River; three brothers, Joe Cleve Daugherty and Calvin Lee Daugherty of New River and Howard Ray Daugherty of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Nancy Jane Daugherty of New River and Monie Bean of Lake City; two nieces and seven nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Friday at the Emily Patterson Cemetery in New River. The Rev. Edwin Phillips will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday and Thursday nights at the Martin Funeral Home in Lake City.
