Dewey George Daugherty Sr., 93, died Wednesday at Parkwest Medical Center. Mr. Daugherty had made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Warren G. and Ola Daugherty, at 208 Ann St., Oliver Springs, after the death of his wife, Dorothy.
He was the son of the late James F. (Jim) and Diniah (Maw) Daugherty.
Mr. Daugherty had worked as an AEC guard in the 1940s and retired from the Roane County School System where he was custodian at Oliver Springs Elementary School.
He was a member of the Victory Bible Baptist Church and of the Jackson Odd Fellows Lodge 54 in Coalfield.
The family said one of his greatest pleasures was growing vegetables in his garden.
Survivors also include a son, Dewey G. Daughtery Jr. of Wartburg; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mrs. Milda Trail of Kingston; Arvena and Woodrow McGhee of Kodak; Martha D. and Eugene Ramey of Morristown; a sister, Willie Braden of Oliver Springs; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Friday at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Garvin Walls, the Rev. Ellis Patterson and the Rev. Jimmy Lord officiating. Burial was Saturday at Oliver Springs Cemetery.
