Elmia Carroll Daugherty, 79, of Wartburg, died Monday in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
The daughter of Calvin and Mary Jane Bray Carroll, she was born Oct. 11, 1916, in Anderson County. A former resident of Devonia and Oneida, Mrs. Daugherty had been a member of Shiloh Baptist Church since Oct. 18, 1931.
During those 64 years of Christian service, her family said she often spoke of her longing to be at home with Jesus. Mrs. Daughtery enjoyed quilting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Daugherty in 1975; infant son, Harold Daugherty; grandson, Larry Wayne Daugherty; parents; three sisters and one brother.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne and Estel Phillips of Wartburg, with whom she made her home, Brenda and Mike Harris and Kay and Gary Armes, both of Coalfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Wilma Daugherty of Oliver Springs, Condy and Lana Daugherty and Larry and Carol Daugherty, all of Richland, VA; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a host of friends; special nieces, Linnie Bunch of Devonia; special friend, Annette Morrison of Oliver Springs, and ProCare nurses, who cared for Mrs. Daugherty while she was ill.
Funeral service will be 1 pm Thursday in Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Phillips, the Rev. Don Daugherty and the Rev. Luke Ward officiating. The body will lie in state one hour before the service. Burial will follow in Bray Cemetery, New River.
Family will receive friends 6-9 pm Wednesday in Cox Funeral Home, Lake City.
