An Andersonville native who raised five children after the death of her husband in 1944, Mrs. Mossie Allred Elkins, 74, of Hillvale Rd., Andersonville Rt. 1, died Saturday at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville.
Mrs. Elkins’ husband was Vernon Elkins, the victim of an automobile accident. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and quilting.
She is survived by two daughters, Wilma Jean Owens of Oak Ridge and Sarah Lou Elkins of Jacksboro; three sons, James Elkins of Andersonville, Kenneth Duane Elkins of Powell and Benny Elkins of Claxton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Hobart Reva Walker of Clinton, Trula Brewer of Knoxville, Irene Higginbotham of Alcoa and Lorene Long of Andersonville and two brothers, Roy Allred of Lincoln Park, MI, and Ted Allred of Knoxville.
Funeral services were held Monday at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Joe Bridges officiating. Burial was in Hillvale Cemetery.
