Elsie C. Farmer, age 66, a resident of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Farmer was preceded in death by her parents, Robert R. Childers Sr. and Jewell Minton Childers.
Mrs. Farmer was born Jan. 27, 1933, in Piedmont. AL. She moved to Oak Ridge in 1943 and to Clinton in 1952.
Survivors: husband, John T. Farmer Sr. of Clinton, son, John T. Farmer Jr. and wife Susan of Knoxville; daughter, Valerie Hopper and husband, Steve of Lancing, TN; grandchildren, Thomas Farmer of Knoxville, Kathleen and Alanna Hopper of Lancing; brothers, Robert R. Childers Jr., and Virgil Ray Childers, both of Heiskell; and sisters, Betty Ross of Orange Park, FL; and Robbie Parker of Powell. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, special friends and loved ones.
Mrs. Farmer graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1950 and Carson-Newman College in 1979 with a double major in business administration and psychology.
She taught music and anti-violence classes at Brushy Mountain Prison and the Morgan County Regional Prison. She was actively involved with the prisoners aid society of Tennessee.
Mrs. Farmer was previously employed as the assistant personnel director for 14 years at Modine Manufacturing in Clinton. She owned and operated Oliver Springs Flower and Gardens for the past 18 years.
She was a member of the Oliver Springs Lions Club and Calvary Baptist Church in Heiskell. She was accomplished in arts as an oil painter and musician.
Friends may call between the hours of 5-8 pm Thursday, July 15, at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. Funeral services will follow in the chapel with the Rev. Gene Farmer and Chaplain Joe Crichton officiating.
Burial and graveside services will be 11 am Friday, July 16, in Anderson Memorial Gardens. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
