Ruth Hounshell Gallardo, 79, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday at Briarcliff Health Care Center after an extended illness. She was the mother of Bill Noe of Oak Ridge, a former Courier-News employee.
Mrs. Gallardo began working in Oak Ridge in 1946 with the Tennessee Eastman Corp. She hired in with Union Carbide Nuclear Division in 1945 at the Y-12 plant. A process operator in the Metal Preparation Division at Y-12, she retired Dec. 31, 1977.
She was born June 30, 1914, in Jonesville, Lee County, VA, to the late Joseph and Rebecca Orick Hounshell.
She was of the Baptist faith and attended Glenwood Baptist Church several years ago and later attended Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.
Two sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
Survivors also include a daughter-in-law, Lois Noe of Oak Ridge; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Patricia Noe of Riverdale, GA; a sister, Ada Hounshell of Jonesville; a brother and his wife, Dee and Juanita Hounshell of Spring Hill, FL; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Stubbs officiating. Burial was Tuesday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
