Thomas Gardner Sr.




Thomas A. Gardner Sr., 79, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Born June 26, 1913, in Oliver Springs, he was the son of the late Cecil Gardner and Bessie Stansbury Gardner.

Mr. Gardner retired from Union Carbide Corp. where he was supervisor of roads and grounds.

He was a member of the Oliver Springs First Baptist Church.

An avid stock car racing fan, he also enjoyed camping and working in his yard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers,, Woodrow, Cecil, and Charles Gardner, and a sister, Dorothy Portwood.

He is survived by h is wife of 58 years, Ada Louise Jones Gardner of Oak Ridge; three sons, Tommy Gardner and wife, Phyllis of Clinton; Joe Gardner and wife, Jamia of Clinton; and Ray Gardner of Oak Ridge; daughter, Sally Gardner of Oak Ridge; a brother, Walter Eugene Gardner and his wife, Maude of Oak Ridge; brother-in-law, James F. Jones and his wife, Vandetta of Oak Ridge; sister-in-law, Dinah Cook and husband, Elmer of Clinton; Thelma Gardner, Kathleen Gardner, both of Oak Ridge; Mossie Huskey of Clinton; grandchildren, Jimmy Gardner and wife, Tracie of Morristown; Joe Gardner Jr. of Clinton; Terry Gardner and Scott Gardner, both of Clinton and Ray Gardner and Lori Gardner , both of Oak Ridge; great-grandchildren, Christopher Gardner and Shyla Gardner of Morristown and Sheena Gardner of Coalfield.

Services were held Friday at Weatherford Mortuary in oak Ridge with the Rev. James F. Jones officiating. Burial was Saturday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
