A retired Claxton builder and farmer, Clarence Alonzo Gault, 90, died Sunday at Regency Health Care Center near Norris. Mr. Gault was born in Strawberry Plains and was one of 13 children of James H. and Cora Azalea LaRue Gault. The family moved to Anderson County in 1914.
Mr. Gault was a longtime deacon and member of Zion Baptist Church in Claxton.
His wife of 69 years, Flora Ellen Byrd Gault, survives him.
Survivors also include sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Brenda Gault of Claxton; C.H. and Nina Gault of Oak Ridge; daughters and sons-in-law, Helen Morris of Oak Ridge and Alice Lewis of Claxton; Ruby Jean and Wayne Gann of Tucson, AZ; Allie and Robert Harrington of Concord; Elsie and Joe McCarty of Claxton; Beverly and Hershell Disney of Claxton; and Mary and Isreal Ben Eliezer of Atlanta; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Gault of Knoxville and Thomas Gault of Paducah, KY.
Funeral services were held Monday at Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. David Stephens officiating. Burial was on Tuesday in the church cemetery.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Rev. David Stephens, Powell Rt. 2. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
