Myrtle Elizabeth Hale, 91, of Clinton, died Friday in Windwood Health Care Center.
Mrs. Hale was a member of Clinton Church of Christ. She was well-known in the 1930s and 1940s in her role as a midwife and doctors’ assistant in coal mining communities in which she lived.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen Lay Russell; husband, William Franklin Hale; daughters, Mildred Martens and Leta Annez Hale; and son, Doyle Ray Hale.
Survivors include daughters, Iva Lee Jones of Clinton, Marie Whitehead of Raleigh, NC, Ruth Thomas of Englewood, OH, Edna Pennington of Austin, TX, Betty Luttrell of Riverview, FL and Laquata Potts of Clinton; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ester Gibson of Lafollette.
Funeral service will be 8:30 pm Wednesday in Holley-Gamble Funeral Home chapel with Carlos Herren officiating.
Graveside service will be 10 am Thursday in Tennessee Valley Memory Gardens, Claxton.
Family will receive friends 7-8:30 pm Wednesday in Holley-Gamble Funeral Home.
