Mattie Naomi Hammonds, age 80, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998 at her home.

Mrs. Hammonds was preceded in death by her parents, William Welch and Ida Bean Welch; by two brothers, Dewey Welch and Otis Welch; and by a sister, Lois Wurts.

Survivors: husband, Owen A. Hammonds Sr. of Oliver Springs; daughter, Glenda Dunlap of Oliver Springs; sons, Kenneth E. Hammonds of Manchester, Larry Hammonds and wife Linda of Oliver Springs, and Owen A. Hammonds and wife Judy of Harriman; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clyde Welch of Lenoir City and Bill Welch of Harriman; sisters, Bonnie Russell and Mary Farmer, both of Lenoir City.

Mrs. Hammonds was born March 8, 1917 in LaFollette. She lived in Harlan County, KY for 13 years and moved to Oliver Springs 33 years ago. She was a member of the Mary Helene United Methodist Church of Kentucky. She enjoyed her flower garden and crocheting.

Receiving of friends was 6-8 pm Thursday, Feb. 26 in Sharp Funeral Home.

Funeral services were 8 pm Thursday, Feb. 26, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Hensley and Rev. Steve McDonald officiating.

Burial and graveside services were 11 am Friday, Feb. 27, in Anderson Memorial Gardens.
