Funeral Services were held Nov. 29 at Martin Funeral Home in Oak Ridge for Benjamin Fonzy Hampton, 98, of Powder Mill Road, Clinton Rt. 5. Mr. Hampton died Nov. 27 at his home. The Rev. Luther Kidwell and the Rev. Kenneth Seeber officiated. Burial was Monday at Poplar Creek Cemetery.
A native of Bryson City, NC he was the son of the late Louis Ashville and Charlotte Hall Hampton.
He was retired from the L&N Railroad where he worked as a cook and was a World War I veteran. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed “ginsenging” in earlier years.
Mr. Hampton married Ruby Currier on April 3, 1932.
He was a member of Moran Baptist Church in the Marlow community.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, two daughters, Cheryl Dean Hampton and Ann Hampton Bradshaw; a son, Carl Hampton; a granddaughter, Vickie Hampton; and a grandson, Michael Hampton.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Pauline Currier Hampton of Clinton; sons and daughters-in-law, George and Rachael Hampton of Heiskell; Larry and Molly Hampton of Oak Ridge, and Garry and June Hampton of Hopemills, NC; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren and a very special friend, Harvey King.
