Mary Elizabeth (Mam-Maw) Harmon, 88, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
She was born June 9, 1913, in Union County.
She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church of Sharps Chapel in Union County.
She worked for approximately 18 years for Clinton Recreation Department.
Preceded in death by husband, Charlie P. Harmon; parents, George and Easter Longmire Sweat; brothers, Cloman, Hubert, and Emmitt Sweat.
Survivors include: daughter, Faye Sweet and husband Leon of Ellijay, GA; son, Charlie Harmon and wife Faye of Clinton; step-daughter, Zelma Harmon of Clinton; step-sons, Lester “Slim” Harmon and wife Lelia of Clinton, Vance E. Harmon and wife Irene of Halls Crossroads, James Anderson of Maryville; sisters, Orpha Holloway of Marion, IN, Lucy Sweat, Stella Davis and Minnie White, all of the Joyner community in Morgan County, Bonnie Jones of Oak Ridge; brothers, Jesse Sweat of Lenoir City, Brice Sweat of Tucson, AZ, Houston and Marjorie Sweat of Joyner Community in Morgan County, Howard and Estaleen Sweat of Oakdale, Verlin Sweat of Crossville; grandchildren, Steve and Nancy Harmon of Decatur, Larry and Karen Harmon of Clinton, Sheila and Jim Hampton of Clinton, Chuck Harmon of Clinton, Holly and Robert Palarie of Stockbridge, GA; great-grandchildren, Brady, Amanda, Matthew, Stephanie, Tiffany, Tyler, Jason and Randy; several step-grandchildren and great-step-grandchildren; special friends, Fred and Linda Weaver of Clinton, Judy Rose of Clinton and Grace Crawford of Clinton; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family received friends 6-8 pm Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral service following at 8 pm in the chapel with the Rev. Donnie Disney and the Rev. Steve Harmon officiating.
Interment will be held 2 pm Wednesday, at Sartin Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Harmon, Chuck Harmon, Jim Hampton, Robert Palarie, Fred Weaver, Dewayne White and Randy Hampton.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Clinton in charge of all arrangements.
