Guy Jackman, 87, of Norris died Thursday, May 19, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Rdige.
Born NOv. 1, 1906 in
Columbia, Ky., he was the son of John Wickliffe Jackman and Laura Patience Walker Jackman.
Mr. Jackman was
married for 60 years to the late Bonnie Pennycuff Jackman. He was a Mason for 65 years, associated with the Columbia Lodge 96, Columbia, with 20 years in the Scottish Rite.
Serving
in the U.S. Army during World Was I I, Mr. Jackman was a sergeant with the 1304 Construction Battalion. He served in Canada, India and China, and was honored with two bronze stars.
A carpenter with the Tennessee Valley Authority, Mr. Jackman worked on a number of the TVA dams, and eventually settled in the new community of Norris. He retired from
TVA in 1972.
While in Norris, Mr. Jackman was active with the Norris Lions Club for 22 years, and was seen often during the
July 4 "Norris Day" celebrations, coordinating the booths and advertising board for the organization.
He was a member of the Norris Religious Fellowship Church.
Mr. Jackman was a published poet. He signed most of his work as "Some Guy."
His poem, "Just a Phone Call Away," was selected for the 1992 Anthology of the National Library of Poetry. A collection of his
poetry was published in 1993 and 1994 as Poems of Some Guy. He was an active member of the Tennessee Mountain Writers Guild.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. A.V. Larson Jr. of Santa Rosa, Calif.; special friends, Lynn, Carol and Merdith Hodges, all of Norris; and a host of other friends.
Funeral services was Saturday in Holley Gamble Chapel with
Dr. Robert Puckett officiating.
A funeral service also was conducted Monday at Grisson Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial was in Columbia City Cemetery, Columbia, Ken.
