Mary Elizabeth Scruggs Jasper, age 70, of Clinton passed away Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mrs. Jasper was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Clinton. She was born in Rome, GA on Aug. 13, 1928.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Scruggs; sons, Isaiah Bennie and Jerry Lewis Scruggs; daughter, Barbara Everette; grandson, Ernie Scruggs Jr., great-grandson, Jamichael Soles; brothers, C.T. Turner and Nevie Barton Sr.; and parents, Isaiah and Beulah Turner Barton.

Survivors: husband, Timothy Jasper of Clinton; daughters, Deborah Thompson of Strawberry Plains, Sharon Cason of Clinton, Donna and husband “Lem” Vernon of Clinton, and Susan Scruggs of Clinton; sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Sandra Burum of Powell, and John Jr. and Mary Denise Scruggs, Ernest and Barbara Scruggs and Robert and Connie Scruggs, all of Clinton; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Inez and husband George Johnson of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-6 pm Wednesday, Aug. 11 at Mount Sinai Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow with the Rev. Bill Caldwell officiating.>BR>

Interment will be in the church cemetery following the funeral service.
