First Class Petty Officer Michael Dewayne Jeffers, 22, of Clinton, died Monday in San Diego Medical Center, Hillcrest, Calif.

He was stationed with the USS Shiloh in San Diego, Calif. While in the service, he received the National Defense Service Award and South West Asia Service Award. Petty Officer Jeffers was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, Roger and Mildred Barton Jeffers of Clinton; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Tracy Jeffers of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandparents, Larry and Jean Barton of Delaware, Ohio, and Pearl Conaster of Clinton; special friend, Emily Evans of Clinton; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral service was Friday in Holley-Gamble Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Whittaker officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Garden. Full military honors were conducted by the US Navy.
