Rev. Clyde Kidwell




The Rev. Clyde Kidwell, 77, of Center lane, Clinton Rt. 5, died Monday at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was born Aug. 14, 1915, in Anderson County to the late Peter and Linda Baker Kidwell.

His first wife, Dorothy Braden Kidwell, a daughter, Joyce Winder, a grandson, Nathan Kidwell, a brother, Harry Lee Kidwell, and a sister, Annabelle Guy, preceded him in death.

Mr. Kidwell was a minister of the Gospel for 43 years. He had served Dutch Valley, Pioneer, Royal Blue, High Street, Mineral Springs, Piney Grove, Tennessee Hollow and Lone Mountain Baptist Churches. He also retired from Union Carbide’s Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge after 25 years service as a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Parlie Kidwell; a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Luke and Shonna Kidwell; and Larry Kidwell of Clinton; daughters, Mrs. Butch (Linda) White and Mrs. Eddie (Shirley) Nunn of Clinton; Mrs. Edward (Brenda) Neel and June Kidwell, both of Oliver Springs; stepdaughters, Mrs. Jolene Jones, Mrs. Lillie Canady and Mrs. Parlie Hicks, all of Clinton; step sons, Ray Smith of Baltimore, MD, and Carl Smith of Clinton; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Holder of Clinton, Sue Beets of Riverside, CA, and Pearl Workman of Mobile, AL; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 pm Thursday at Batley Baptist Church with the Rev. Bedford Bullock, the Rev. Archie Nelson, the Rev. George Miller and the Rev. Calvin Braden officiating. Burial will be at Walker Long Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour before services. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 pm today (Wednesday) at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home.
