James Lawson




James E. Lawson, 84, of Lake City, died Tuesday in Fort Sanders Medical Center.

The son of Dr. A.L. and Sara Kinsey Lawson, he was born Feb. 17, 1911, in Elk Valley, Campbell County. Mr. Lawson was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake City. He was a retired Anderson County Clerk and Master and a former Lake City Council member.

He was an active member, former president and last surviving charter member of Lake City Lions Club and a longtime chairman of Christmas basket program.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Watts Lawson of Lake City; daughter and son-in-law, Sara Lou and Charles Oldham of Lake City; son and daughter-in-law, James E. Jr. and Susan Lawson of Lake City; son, Carl Michael Lawson of Nashville; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Gene Sanslow of Oak Ridge; stepson and daughter-in-law, Dr. Boyd and Krista Watts of Salisbury, NC; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Louise and Charles Trammell of Lake City; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Lois Lawson of Ocala, FL; 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 am Thursday in First Baptist Church of Lake City with the Rev. Wayne Markham and the Rev. David Lord officiating. The body will lie in state one hour before services. Burial will be in Elk Valley View Cemetery, Elk Valley.

Family will receive friends 6-9 pm Wednesday in Cox Funeral Home.

Cox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
