James H. Lawson




James Harley Lawson Jr., 74, of Oliver Springs died Tuesday, June 18, 1996, in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge following a long illness.

Mr. Lawson was a retired Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) truck driver, for which he was employed for 27 years. He was a member of New Fairview Baptist Church and International Brotherhood of Teamsters No. 518.

Also, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed the Atlanta Braves baseball and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. Lawson Sr. and Minnie Bell Williams Lawson and his wife, Catherine Lucille Brown Lawson.

Survivors are daughters and sons in-law, Ruth and Leroy Nation of Oliver Springs, Frances and Richard King of Wartburg, Frankie Sue and Kenneth Loy of Oliver Springs, Minnie Kathy and Terry Stockton of Oliver Springs and Jeannia Marie and Steven Mills of Oliver Springs; sons and daughters-in-law, James H. Lawson III and Vickie Lawson of Knoxville and Benny and Vickie Lawson of Harriman; 21 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; special friends, William Fox and Ed Gibson; and several nieces and nephews.

Family received friends 6-8:30 pm Thursday, June 20, in Sharp Funeral Home, Oliver Springs.

Funeral services were held 8:30 pm Thursday, June 20, Sharp Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Garvin Walls and the Rev. Jeff Parrott officiating.

Burial and graveside services were held 11 am Friday, June 21, in Oliver Springs Cemetery. Sharp Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
