Madge Elizabeth Lay, age 86, of State College, formerly of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at University Park Nursing Home.

She was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Harlan, KY. the daughter of the late James and Alice Clark Hamby.

ON July 25, 1934, she married Tivis Harold Lay, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Harlan High School. For many years she taught piano. She was a sales clerk for Gann’s Variety Store in Clinton prior to her retirement. Madge was a member of First Baptist Church, Clinton, where she was a long-time member of the choir and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club in Clinton.

Survivors: daughter, Ruby L. Ackerman of State College; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family received friends 6-8 pm Friday, March 8, 2002, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral service following at 8 pm in the chapel with the Rev. Terry Baker officiating. Interment was 10:30 am Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Sunset Cemetery.
