Arburth Mack “Shag” Maples, 71, of Clinton, died Friday in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
The son of Julius and Bessie Purkey Maples, he was born May 21, 1924, in Anderson County. Mr. Maples was a retired maintenance worker with Martin Marietta Y-12 and a member of Local 480 International Association of Machinists. He was a member of Guiding Star Baptist Church in Lake City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ethel Marie Maples; son George Leroy Maples; and brothers, Litton, George and Immer Maples.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Nellie Golden Maples of Clinton; daughter, Caroline Maples of Clinton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Esta and Frank Yodzukinas of Norris and Helen Ruth and Ray Williams of Clinton; seven sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law, former son-in-law, Jim Jones of Oliver Springs; three uncles; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Funeral service was Monday in Cox Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Howard Bailey and the Rev. Larry Sharp officiating. Burial was Tuesday in Blowing Springs Cemetery.
Cox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
