Roy Earl Marcum, 52, of Laurel Road, Clinton Rt. 2, died of cancer Tuesday night at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He had been in failing health for the past year.

A native of Middlesboro, KY, he was born Dec. 7, 1939, to the late Clyde Richard and Flora Hodge Marcum.

Mr. Marcum was printing manager at The Courier-News in Clinton. He had been employed there since Oct. 27, 1966. In an interview in 1987, he had said that he enjoyed doing a variety of printing, from business cards to books. Quality in his work was very important to him.

A volunteer fireman for the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department, he had served there for 13 years.

He married Bobbie Sue Taylor in Oct. 1961 at Tazewell. They moved to Clinton five years later.

Mr. Marcum was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church.

When time permitted, he enjoyed fishing as a pastime.

A grandson, Christian Thomas Marcum, also preceded him in death.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathleen Marcum of Johnson City; two grandsons, Michael David and Paul Andrew Marcum; a granddaughter, Meredith Kathleen Marcum, all of Johnson City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Agnes Marcum, Mike and Shirley Marcum, Bobby and Helen Marcum, all of Middlesboro, KY; brothers, Joe and Richard Marcum of Middlesboro; sister and brother-in-law, Debra Sue and John Teague of Knoxville; sisters, Delores Tillman and Dora Kay Marcum, both of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; and a foster daughter, Elizabeth Reaves.

The family will receive friends 7-9 Wednesday (tonight)>

Funeral services will be at 11 am Thursday in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with the Rev. Mack Smith and the Rev. James Wilcox officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Members of the Marlow VFD will be pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of Mrs. Lee Costanzo, 103 Case Lane, Oak Ridge, TN 37830 or to Methodist Medical Center Foundation, Cancer Wing, Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37831.
