Martha Jane Marlow, age 64, of Lake City, went home to be with Jesus Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at Lake City Health Care Center.
She was born Aug. 10, 1935, in Newcomb, TN.
She was a member of Beach Grove Baptist Church in Lake City where she served as Church Treasurer for 16 years. Mrs. Marlow enjoyed attending and working in her church. Because of declining health for the past few years she was unable to attend.
She was a nurse, employed by Dr. R.V. Scott in Lake City, also Knoxville Recovery Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Marlow; parents, Henry and Nancy Perkey Lay; sister, Mary Helen Lay Wills Raby; brothers-in-law, Tommy Wills, Carl Marlow, Arnold Marlow and Charles Marlow; sister-in-law, Gladys Hawkins and Leopal Hawkins; grandparents, L.N. and Martha Perkey and Andrew “Bus” and Charity Lay.
Survivors: son, Jeffrey “Brian” Marlow of Lake City; step-son, the Rev. Charlie M. Marlow and wife, Becky of Oliver Springs; step-daughters, Ailene Ward of Heiskell; Shirley Carter of Knoxville, Wanda Akins of Heiskell; granddaughter, Kelsey Marlow of Chattanooga; aunts, Lillian and Irene Stewart of Toledo, OH; uncle, Earl Lay of Toledo, OH; brothers-in-law, Tom Marlow and wife Betty of Clinton, Clyde Marlow and wife, Mary Sue of Oliver Springs, the Rev. Warner Hawkins of Lake City, LeRoy Hawkins of Lake City; sisters-in-law, Sue Brown and husband, Bill of Lake City, Cloie Burnett and husband Jack of LaFollette, May Lesbonde and husband Fred of Kingston, Marty Marlow of Clinton, Mary Alice Marlow of Kingsport, Pat Marlow of Lake City; five step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren; two very dear friends, Shirley Elliott Roberts and Marilyn Harmon, special friends, Billy Moore and Wand Bowling; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The Marlow family received friends 6-8 pm Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City.
Funeral services were conducted 2 pm Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999 in the chapel with the Rev. Justin Phillips and the Rev. Kenneth Seiber officiating. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery.
