Herbert Bryan McCowan Sr., 86, of Oak Ridge died Sunday in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He was born July 20, 1908, in Place, KY, to Clinton and Hannah Hensley McCowan. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church, Faith Masonic Lodge 756 and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason.
Mr. McCowan was preceded in death by two sons, James B. McCowan in 1987 and Ross B. McCowan in 1977, and by his first wife, Jean McCowan in 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Pendley McCowan of Oak Ridge, a son, Herbert B. McCowan Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Clinton; daughters, Joyce Herrell and her husband, James of Oak Ridge, and Janie McCowan Overly and her husband, John of Knoxville; sisters, Goldie Gregory and Foretta Halcomb, both of Corbin, KY, and Myrtle Bryant of Covington, KY; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A Masonic service will be 8 pm in Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge, with the funeral service beginning at 8:15 pm. Dr. Larry Dipboye and Rev. Don Dunn will officiate. Graveside service will be 10 am Thursday in Anderson Memorial Gardens.
