Rufus (Speedy) McGhee




A former coal miner who retired from a manufacturing plant in Ohio, Rufus (Speedy) McGhee, 80, of the Fraterville community, Lake City Rt. 2, died around noon Sunday at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville.

McGhee, who served with the U.S. Army during WW II, enjoyed hunting when he was younger. He was a Baptist. McGhee was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Lucy Brewer.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cenia McGhee; two daughters, Mrs. Worth (Gladys) McColl of Lake City and Mrs. Hobert (Azalee) Cook of South Bend, IN; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd McGhee of Clinton and a sister, Mrs. Hazel Reno of Lake City.

Funeral services are to be held Wednesday (today) at 2 pm at Cox Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. William L. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery.
