William Earl McGhee, age 81, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. McGhee was born Dec. 28, 1920 in Concord.
He was a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs. Mr. McGhee retired from TVA in 1986. He also worked for Rust Engineering. He was a member of the painters and allied workers local 437. He was a member of New Fairview Baptist Church, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He served on the U.S.S. OTUS, a transport ship positioned in the South Pacific.
Mr. McGhee was preceded in death by: his parents, William Hobert McGhee and Parlie Childs McGhee; five brothers, Elmer, William Hobert Jr., J.C., Fred and Charles McGhee; five sisters, Thelma Anderson, Lucille McGhee, Pauline Black, Dorothy McGhee and Margaret Snodderly.
Survivors: wife, Mary Sisson McGhee of Oliver Springs; sons, Wayne Earl McGhee and wife Brenda of Harriman, Roger Douglas McGhee of Liberal, KS, Thomas Darrell McGhee of San Francisco, CA; daughter, Linda Jackson and husband Billy of Oliver Springs; grandchildren, Edward McGhee, Cindy Stout, April Daugherty, Michelle McGhee, Maggie Jackson; great-grandchildren, Zack Daugherty, Quinn McGhee, Jackson McGhee, Keenan McGhee; sisters, Barbara Langston of Florida, Mildred Stephenson and husband Ronnie of Florida.
The family received friends 6-8 pm Saturday, Aug 3, 2002, at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral service followed at 8 pm in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Ellis Patterson, the Rev. Garvin Walls, and the Rev. Steve Queener officiating.
Burial and graveside services will be 2 pm Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
