Lily McKay Ball McGinley died Wednesday, March 6, 1996 in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. McGinley was born Aug. 25, 1912, to the late Rev. Dr. Fleetwood and Flossie Melton Ball in Lexington, KY. She was the third of four daughters.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from Union University of Jackson and was then employed by Farm Security Administration. She was transferred in 1939 to East Tennessee to cover five counties, where she worked with farm families teaching gardening, canning and other home making practices.
After her marriage to H.G. McGinley – then superintendent of Clinton City schools – and birth of her two sons, Robert Ball McGinley and James Henry McGinley, Mrs. McGinley became co-owner of Ladies Toggery and operated it for 38 years.
She was active in church, civic and literary endeavors. She was a member of Clinton First Baptist Church, where she taught in adult Sunday school class for 40 years. Since that time, she rotated teaching in Anderson County Nursing Home.
She was an early member of Clinton Recreation Commission during the organizational stage, before the erection of the building.
Additionally, she was a member of Timely Topics, the Garden Club and the Clinton Public Library Study Group.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Flossie Melton Ball and Martha Joe Ball.
Survivors are her husband, H.G. McGinley of Clinton, sons, Robert Ball McGinley of Mobile, AL and James Henry McGinley of Franklin; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Holmes; grandchildren, Robert Ball McGinley Jr., Kathryn Boone McGinley, Rachel Lee McGinley, Daniel Baulch McGinley, Elizabeth Bruner McGinley, Hannah McKay McGinley and Dallas Brandon Jones.
Funeral service was conducted 1 pm, Saturday, March 9, in Clinton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Samuel Dean and Rev. Bill Rowland officiating. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery, Clinton.
Family received friends 7-9 pm Friday, March 8, in Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, Clinton.
