Carl E. (Jargo) McMillan, 64, of Watts Street in Lake City, died suddenly Monday morning, April 19, while at work.
Mr. McMillan was a lieutenant with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department where he had worked under six different sheriffs. He began work under Sheriff Glad Woodard. He was in charge of the communications office at the time of his death.
He was a member of Coal Creek Lodge No. 492 F&AM and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the IOOF Weldon No. 181. He also belonged to the Anderson County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 25 and to the National Sheriff’s Association.
A member of First Baptist Church of Lake City, he had also served with the U.S. Army.
Mr. McMillan was born Aug. 30, 1928, in Anderson County to the late Frank and Vada Jones McMillan. He was preceded in death by his half brother, Clyde McMillan.
Sheriff Tom Edwards said “Jargo had been at the sheriff’s office for many years and he will be missed by everyone in the department. He was a friend to everyone.”
Mr. McMillan is survived by his wife, Wilma Hatmaker McMillan of Lake City; son, Gregory S. McMillan; a daughter, Amy McMillan; a sister, Louise Massengill and a half sister, Geneva Housley, all of Lake City.
Services will be at 2 pm Thursday, April 22, at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Foust and the Rev. Wayne Hubbs officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with Oak Ridge Police Department officers serving as Honor Guards. Law enforcement units from several counties will serve as escorts.
Pallbearers will be from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department. The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 pm today (Wednesday) with Masonic services following at Cox Funeral Home in Lake City.
