Edith Lillian Merritt, 73, of Norris died Friday, March 15, 1996, in Fort Sanders Park West Hospital.

Mrs. Merritt was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lillie Moore Ballinger, husband, Walter Merritt, and daughter, Rita Rhea.

Survivors are a daughter, Sue Goins of Andersonville; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Kathy Merritt of McMinnville and Tony and Patricia Merritt of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Anita Goins, Andrea Norton, Billy Jo Rhea, Keith Merritt, Kristi Cantrell, Edward Merritt, Jeffrey Merritt and Christopher Merritt; great-grandchildren, Anthony Merritt and Celeste Rhea; sister, Betty Ritz of Romeo, Mich.; brother, James Ballinger of Plymouth, Mass., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were 8 p.m. Sunday, March 17, in Holley Gamble Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Donnie Wallace officiating.

Graveside services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 18, in Bethel Cemetery, Clinton. Family received friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday March 17, in Holley Gamble Funeral Home chapel, Clinton.
