The Rev. James Lawrence Nelson, 85, died Sept. 4 at his home on Blockhouse Valley Road, Clinton Rt. 7. A native of Anderson County, he was a carpenter with the Tennessee Valley Authority before retiring.
He was a member and former deacon at Farmer’s Grove Baptist Church. Gardening was a favorite past time.
P>His wife, Harriett Nelson, and sons, Virgil Cleo and Edward Henson Nelson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Everette and Virginia Nelson, J.D. and Wanda Nelson, the Rev. Archie and Ruby Nelson, and Estel and Bobbie Nelson, all of Clinton; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Georgia Messamore of Clinton.
Funeral services were held at Farmer’s Grove Baptist Church on Saturday with the Rev. Kenneth Seeber, the Rev. Bedford Bullock and the Rev. Clyde Kidwell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
