Samuel Clyde Nelson Sr., 77, of Lake City, died Wednesday in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
The son of William and Burlena Patterson Nelson, he was born June 10, 1917, in Anderson County. Mr. Nelson was a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church. He served in World War II with the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife owned and operated Nelson Grocery in Lake City for many years and also were involved in real estate.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by brothers, Young Nelson and Hence Nelson.
Survivors include wife of 49 years, Winifred Clowers Nelson of Lake City; son, and daughters-in-law, Clyde and Glenda Nelson of Kingston and Ronnie and Rita Nelson and Barry and Debbie Nelson, all of Lake City; grandsons, Brent Nelson, Darren Nelson, Michael Nelson and David Neal; sisters, Billie Opal Boggs and Hila Goins, both of Lake City; and brother, Ellis Nelson of Lake City.
Funeral service was 2 pm Friday in Cox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Byrge and the Rev. Floyd Powell officiating. Burial was in Leach Cemetery.
