Helen Gene Newell, 72, of Norris, died Monday in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

She was secretary for 17 years with the former Norris High School and was a member of Norris Religious Fellowship Church.

Mrs. Newell enjoyed reading and flower gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Maude Stokes George.

Survivors included her husband, Francis C. Newell of Norris; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Leila Newell of Middlesex, NJ, and Jim and Rita Newell of Kingsport; grandchildren, Meka and Denni Amy Newell; a sister, Thelma Murr of Maryville; a brother, Don George of Maryville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2 pm Thursday in Norris Religious Fellowship Church with Dr. Robert Coombs or Dr. Robert Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Norris Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends 7-9 pm Wednesday in Holley-Gamble Funeral Home.
