Dorothy Lee Owen, 88, of Clinton Rt.
1, Bethel
Community, died Tuesday at her home.
Mrs. Owen was born March 6,
1905, to the late
Julian and Julia McQueen. Her husband, Joe Owen, died in 1972. He was
Anderson County sheriff
during 1956-58 and farmed and operated a grocery store in the Bethel
community for several years.
He also operated the Owen Bus Line to Oak Ridge and founded the Clinton
Transit Line. At one time,
Mr. Owen served on the Clinton Police force.
Mrs. Owen, a
homemaker, was a member of
Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Edsel
(Dorothy Jo) Leinart and Mrs.
Leo (Maureen) Warwick, both of Clinton; Mrs. Gerald (Violet) Heisinger of
Dison, Ill.; eight
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lola Beech of Briceville;
Bessie Hatmaker of Lake City;
Ocie Hatmaker of Clinton; and Leona Webb of Gary, Ind.; and several
nieces and
nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm Thursday at
Holley-Gamble Funeral
Home. The funeral will follow with the Rev. Dr. Robert Burns
officiating. Burial will be at 11 am Friday
at Bethel Cemetery.
