Verneda Ellen Flittner Owens, 81,
died Friday at
Anderson County Health Care Center where she had been a resident for two
months. Mrs. Owens
had been in declining health for several months.
She was born Sept.
18, 1911, in Elberfeld,
Ind., to the late Andrew and Rosa Flittner. Her husband, Jack Owens,
died Sept. 14, 1989. He was
the Clinton Fire Chief and Safety Director before retiring in December of
1986. Mrs. Owens' twin
sister, Oneda Moore, died Dec. 31, 1977.
While her husband was
stationed overseas during
World War I I, she worked at the Chrysler Corp. weapons plant in
Evansville, Ind. After moving to
Clinton in 1946, she owned and operated the Anderson Heights Beauty Shop
on Meadowbrook Street,
Clinton.
Survivors include a son, Clinton Haley of Clitnon; four
grandchildren, Kathleen
Goldstein of Newton, Mass.; Kenneth Haley of Clinton; Darryl Haley and
Douglas Haley, both of
Knoxville; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren,
Darryl Haley jr. and Nathan
Haley both of Maryville.
Services were Monday at Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home Chapel with
the Rev. Larry Webster officiating. Burial was at Tennessee Valley
Memory
Gardens.
