James (Jim) Franklin Paschall, 70, of Clinton died Monday, Sept. 3, at the Oak Ridge Health Care Center where he has been a resident for the past year and a half.
Paschall was born in Puryear, Tenn., to Coil Paschall and Lula Amanda Neal Paschall.
After graduating from Cottage Grove High School, he married Emma Ruth Stewart in October 1929. He and his wife were active members of the Mill Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
During the Depression he worked with an automobile company in Detroit, Mich. He later worked for short periods in a defense plant in Paducah, Ky. and at Camp Tyson n McKenzie.
He and his wife have been residents of Oak Ridge and Clinton since 1955. He was an employee for many years in supply administration for Union Carbide Co.
After moving to Anderson County, Paschall became an active member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge.
He served on the board of trustees, the board of elders, and the property committee as well as being a supporter of the church camp for the Knoxville Presbytery.
After retirement he became an outreach aid for the elderly with the Anderson County Community Action Center in Clinton.
He was a 40-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 0108 in Paris, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Paschall of Clinton; two daughters, Noraleen Stearns of Orlando, Fla. and Kathleen Anderson of Atlanta, Ga.; three sons, James Neal Paschall of Joshua Tree, Calif., Douglas Martin Paschall of Orlando and Wayne Coil Paschall of Houston, TX.; two sisters, Ruth Emrich of Santa Ana, Calif., and Myrtle Spaulding of Nashville; sister-in-law, Mrs. Alton Paschall of Cottage Grove; brother-in-law, Perry Steward of Puryear; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Kathleen and Pollye Paschall and five brothers, Paul, Alton, Oden, Polk and Milton Paschall.
The funeral will be held at 10 am on Thursday at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge. Dr. Robert Watkins and the Rev. Jerry Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be Friday, Sept. 7, at 10 am at the Walker Cemetery in Paris.
Arrangements are being handled by the Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge and by Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris.
