A retired self-employed logger and coal miner, Jonas Patterson, 84, of Briceville, died Tuesday at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church. His parents were the late Amos and Mandy Jane Adkins Patterson. His wife, Nancy Jane Patterson, died in 1981. A brother, John Patterson, and four sisters, Martha and Emily Patterson, Lucy Phillips and Annie P. Haun, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Arvil Phillips of Dutch Valley Road; three sisters, Rosie Phillips of Briceville; Kizzie Phillips of Clinton and Mary Jane Phillips of Lake City.

The family will receive friends 6-9 pm tonight (Wednesday) at Martin Lake City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 pm at Laurel Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Edwin Phillips and the Rev. R.C. Seiber will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
