Funeral Services were held Saturday at LaFollette First Independent Baptist Church for the Rev. Robert (Bob) Rains, 87, of Caryville Rt. 1. Burial was in Campbell County Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Rains died Wednesday at LaFollette Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of the Vasper area.

A member of Red Ash Baptist Church, he was also a well-known evangelist in Anderson and Campbell counties. He had preached for over 55 years. He was a former pastor of Antioch Baptist Church.

He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, having worked for Clinchmore Mining Company.

His parents were the late Horace and Ellen Bolton Rains. His wife, Hazel, died in 1982. A grandson, Keith Edward Smith died in 1977.

Survivors include his daughters, Mrs. Bobbie Smith of Caryville and Mrs. Polly Ellen Smiddy of Minneapolis, MN; one sister, Tennie Blankenship of Caryville; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Martin Funeral Home in Lake City was in charge of arrangements.
