Jesse Rather




Jesse Floyd Rather, 65, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday in the Harriman City Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson K. and Elsie Hembree Rather.

Mr. Rather was a U.S. Army veteran. He served as a military policeman during the Korean War.

A native of Roane County, he was a retired bus driver, working for the Greyhound Bus Company for 25 years, with an accident free record.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Rather of Oliver Springs; three brothers, Don and wife, Ann Rather; Jack and wife, Geraldine Rather, and R.C. and wife, June Rather, all of Oliver Springs; five sisters, Jean Freels of Harriman; Lillie Hatfield of Baltimore, MD; Ruth Stout of Harriman; Irene and husband, Roger Jones, of Harriman and Shirley and husband, Fred Goodman of Knoxville; uncles, Raymond Hembree; two special nephews, Eddie and Danny Gentry; aunt, Anna Lee Rather of Harriman, special cousin, Jane Ward of Oak Ridge; 28 nieces and nephews; 31 great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-niece.

Funeral services were Friday in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Homer Hooks and the Rev. Kenneth Stubbs officiating. Graveside services were Saturday in the Rather Family Cemetery in Oak Ridge.
