Melda Whitaker Violet, age 81, of Lake City passed away Thursday, April 9, 1999 at her residence.
Mrs. Violet was born Feb. 25, 1918, in Anderson County. She was a member of Island Ford Baptist Church in Lake City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Violet; daughter, Dorothy V. Lawson; infant son, Bobby Violet; parents, Fletcher and Stella Garner Whitaker; and sisters, Mamie, Nadine and Ruth Kirk.
Survivors: children, Robert “Bob” Violet and wife Callie of Lake City, Roy Lee Violet of Lake City, Mae Webb and husband Carl of OH, Claude Violet and wife Jane of Garland, TX, June “Odie” Nelson and husband Tony of Clinton, Johnny Violet and wife Shirley of Athens, TN, Donnie Violet, Nina Carden and husband Lonnie, Lucy Hensley and husband Sam, Lewis Violet and wife Connie and Sandra White and husband Norman, all of Lake City; sisters, Eva Lynn and husband Alvie of Nashville, Ann Cagle of Flower Branch, GA, and Opal Ward and husband Paris of Lake City; brothers, Claude Whitaker and wife Mable of Lake City, Fletcher Whitaker and wife Joyce of Mexico Beach, FL, Oscar Whitaker and wife Sandra of OH, Charles Whitaker and wife Betty of Lake City, and James Whitaker and wife Judy of Clinton; 24 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren.
Visitation was 6-9 pm Saturday, April 10, at Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City.
The funeral service was 2 pm Sunday, April 11, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. George Miller and Rev. Warner Hawkins officiating. Interment in Island Ford Cemetery, Lake City, following the funeral service.
