George M. Vowell, 66, Lake City Rt. 1, died Oct 19 at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Mr. Vowell was a deacon of Laurel Branch Baptist Church. He was retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Inc.

A member of Crystal Lodge 616 F&AM and Coal Creek Chapter 226 OES, he also was a Navy veteran.

His parents were the late Grantz and Edith Vowell. A sister, Pearl Lindsay, and two brothers, Millard and Richard Vowell, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Lois Patterson Vowell of Lake City; sons, Chris and Michael of Lake City; special son, Tommy Lee of Lake City; sisters, Mossie Cothran of Taylor Oak, Mich.; Callie Wilson of Coalfield; brothers, Ronald Vowell of Oak Ridge, and Russell Vowell of Woodstock, Georgia.

Funeral services were held Wednesday night at Laurel Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Edwin Phillips and the Rev. Moss Beets officiating. Burial wiil be at 11 am Thursday at Norris Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be deacons of Laurel Branch Baptist Church. Cox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
